The G.A.A Healthy Club Project
Beaufort G.A.A. Club has been selected to take part in a G.A.A. Healthy Club Project. It is a pilot project run by the G.A.A. in conjunction with the Health Service Executive. The project was launched in Croke Park on 11th March 2013 by Liam O'Neill, President of the G.A.A. and Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer with the H.S.E.
Aim
Phase 1 will establish what Clubs want and need in the area of health promotion. Its aim is to highlight the excellent work already being done by most Clubs in the area of health promotion while allowing them to identify specific areas in which the Club feels it could improve.
Phase 1
Phase 1 will encompass a broad spectrum of health related issues including:
- the promotion of health through physical activity.
- social inclusion initiatives and activities.
- health and safety
- healthy eating and diet
- drug and alcohol misuse
- mental health and well-being.
- suicide prevention and response
- promotion of health through physical activity
- social inclusion initiatives and activities for non-playing members
- health and safety
Each participating Club will have to set up a Healthy Club Committee. Its first job will be to access the Club and highlight the good work already being done in area of health promotion and identify areas the Club would like to prioritise in the future. The assessment will fall under four general categories:
1. Governance- how Club operates and policies it follows
2. Environment- Physical environment in which Club operates
3. Partnerships- Links developed with groups in wider community
4. Programmes- from which the Club might benefit
Resources: Project Manager will be located in Croke Park and will assist participating Clubs at all times.
